Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel grew in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I surpassed all my male partners and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the main role of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she has performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale the series filmed over ten years ago.
